The 80/20 rule, also known as the Pareto principle, states that 20% of the work you do results in 80% of your desired outcome. First coined by economist Vilfredo Parteo in the 19th century and then popularized by management consultant Joseph M. Juran, the 80/20 rule is one of the most common productivity tools used today. It’s described as the secret to achieving more while doing less, as it forces you to identify the 20% of your actions will lead to 80% of your happiness and outputs. As Richard Koch, author of the 80/20 Principle, writes:
The key is to work out the few things that are really important, and the few methods that will give us what we really want.
So go pursue what you really want with the 80/20 principle. And wear this shirt to make sure everyone else does too.
